The state flag was
adopted in 1902. The triangle represents Ohio's hills and valleys,
and the stripes symbolize roads and waterways. The 17 stars stand
for Ohio as the 17th state. The white circle with a red center
represents Ohio's initial and the buckeye nut. The seal, adopted
in 1967, bears a sheaf of wheat and a bundle of 17 arrows. The sun
rising over mountains shows that Ohio was the first state west of
the Allegheny Mountains.
